Shillong, 05th July 2023 -Toyota Kirloskar Motor [TKM] today announced the launch of the 63rd T-TEP institute at Don Bosco Technical School, Shillong and the first T-TEP institute in the state of Meghalaya, with the support of Automotive Skills Development Council (ASDC). The primary objective of this initiative is to enhance the student’s skill sets with a special focus on rural areas, thereby strengthening their employability through the company’s unique training initiative namely Toyota Technical Education Program (T-TEP).
The event was graced by Dr Mazel Ampareen Lyngdoh Hon’ble Cabinet Minister, Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Department, Health & Family Welfare Department, Information and Public Relations Department, Law Department, Govt of Meghalaya, in the presence of Mr. Vikram Gulati, Country Head and Executive Vice President, TKM, Fr Arcadius Puwein, Principal, Don Bosco Technical School, Shillong, Mr Arun Lawaniya, Deputy Lead – State Initiatives and Capacity Building, ASDC and Mr. Ambarish Das, Vice President, Highland Toyota and senior executives from TKM.
Aimed at generating talented and technically skilled professionals for the automobile industry, T-TEP strongly contributes to the country’s “Skill India” mission. With T-TEP, thus far, TKM is associated with 63 ITI/Diploma institutes covering 26 states. Currently, more than 12,000 students have been trained and 70% of the students are working in various automobile companies and their respective dealerships across the country
On this occasion, Dr Mazel Ampareen Lyngdoh Hon’ble Cabinet Minister, Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Department, Health & Family Welfare Department, Information and Public Relations Department, Law Department, Govt of Meghalaya, said, “Toyota Kirloskar Motor’s initiative, in collaboration with ASDC’s centre Don Bosco Technical School, Shillong will have a big impact towards developing highly skilled, employable, and future ready youths. These efforts of collaboration by industry partners like Toyota will support in bridging the existing skills gap and help develop a world-class workforce which will contribute to the growth of the auto industry and the community as a whole in the state of Meghalaya.”
Present at the Inauguration, Mr Vikram Gulati, Country Head & Executive Vice President, Toyota Kirloskar Motor said, “Automotive industry is growing tremendously and since 2006 T-TEP has become a benchmark by adopting exceptional training modules, thereby benefitting the automotive service industry and society at large. Through the T-TEP initiative, we develop talented youths by equipping them with world-class training on advanced automotive technologies.
Further to support needy students to pursue their studies further we recently recently announced Scholarship program for Technical Education And Recognition (STAR) under T-TEP. This program is a unique initiative, aimed to empower deserving students from financially challenging backgrounds to enhance their skills and grow. In addition the collaboration with ASDC’s centre Don Bosco Technical School, Shillong will strengthen the talent pool from the grass root level and provide opportunities for youth in the automotive sector with a special focus on rural areas.”
Expressing his view, Mr Arindam Lahiri, CEO, ASDC said, “We are happy to be associated with Toyota for the T-TEP program. T-TEP is continuously growing and adapting to the changing needs and dynamics of the auto industry and this initiative is an important step to further enhance skill development with a special focus to provide opportunities for youth to learn and excel.”
Talking about this partnership, Fr Arcadius Puwein, Principal, Don Bosco Technical School, Shillong said, “With growing technology advancements in the auto industry and unprecedented growth in motorization, we need to ensure that the consumers receive the best-in-class services. To align with this requirement, there is a need for highly skilled technicians, making it imperative that students at technical training centers have access to advanced technologies and gain hands-on training experience. With this collaboration, students at ASDC’s centre Don Bosco Technical School, Shillong will get an opportunity to understand Toyota’s values, best practices, and advanced technologies which will benefit not only the students but also the entire industry, thereby contribute toward the Skill India Mission.”
Talking about this initiative, Mr. Ambarish Das, Vice President, Highland Toyota said “As a part of this initiative, students will get exposed to the latest curriculum covering automobile fundamentals, safety, Toyota values and basic soft skills. Highland Toyota is committed to supporting these students by providing on-job training and facilitating their skill development. The Don Bosco Technical School, Shillong will effectively adopt this program via the T-TEP syllabus which will enable the students to further enhance their skills and make them employable in the auto industry."
TKM along with its dealer partner have invested towards infrastructure, e-learning contents, engines, transmissions, practice kits and train the institute’s faculty through its unique Train-The-Trainer approach. In addition, the company recently announced the “Scholarship Program for Technical Education And Recognition” [STAR] under its Toyota Technical Education Program [T-TEP] initiative. The main aim of the STAR initiative is to empower and provide opportunities to deserving students from challenging economic backgrounds to pursue their higher studies in technical institutes(ITI/Polytechnics). This unique pilot program will benefit a number of students, across 11 states, such as Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand, Bihar, Nagaland, Assam, Manipur, Tripura, Mizoram, Meghalaya and Arunachal Pradesh.
